Great Play, Great Plot.
Act 1, was performed by Group 1 of Grade 9 Graham of Miriam College High School. They portrayed scenes from a play written by Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet. Which is one of the most common plays acted out by students in the ninth grade. This act was performed during the fourth week of November in one of the viewing rooms in in Miriam College. To give a background of what the main theme of the play is, it's merely about two lovers that crossed paths and determined their faith in just one dance, they didn't have a care in the world even though their families are great rivals.
So, in every great play their must be a great plot. During their performance, it could be seen that their performance went smoothly and it is seen that the play was analogous to the plot written in the playbook. Both story lines are somehow identical to each other since some of their elements such as lighting, sounds, props and feelings was executed tremendously which helped the audience understand what happened during the performance. Despite the great performance they have shown to use there was this one element that didn't really excel, which is how they said their lines, they should've put more work into it which would have help improve their performance.
The highlight of this play was the twist, suspense or the thrill. They really put a lot of work in building up the suspense in each scene. They used foreshadowing efficiently that gave the audience a clue that enabled them to know that will happen next.
To summarize, their performance was great, and the elements seen in their performance really helped in making the plot great. Though, most of the elements were good, there was this one element that needed more work on, which is how they would pronounce their lines. Overall, their performance was good. This inspired the next group to step up their game
A Love Story between Two Star-Crossed Lovers.
For this term, the grade 9 students of Miriam College High School were tasked to do a play entitled “Romeo and Juliet” using modern English that took place in viewing rooms one and two. Act 1, shows how two noble families, the Montagues and the Capulets, despised each other. They couldn't even stand seeing one another. Even the servants of each house carried the hatred of their masters. The bloody brawl between the two families led the Prince to threaten them to cease on pain of death.
The scenes shown in Act 1 were intense, but some parts are unorganized. Considering the lack of actions, especially the fighting scene. The way they portrayed their roles was surprisingly unbelievable. The actors who play iconic parts, I feel that there are always big expectations. Just like the scene when Romeo and Juliet met the first time at the masquerade ball, having an explosive chemistry. The rest of the characters was enjoyable to watch proving that there is no such thing as a small part.
One of the highlights from the performance was the balcony scene. It made me convinced that they were fourteen-year olds who were tortured by love. Also, I admired how they were able to transform the venue. To be able to watch an amazing Shakespearean love story in a viewing room was truly magical.
All in all, the play showed strong feelings which emitted the audience an unsettling mood and excitement. The group's performance was impressive. From the way they put all their efforts in the play and how they acted. This was able to help us understandn Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet better. If I were to give a rating, I would give them 8 out of 10.
