Impress
Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet was performed on the 21st of November. The members of this Act are Jasmin Lizardo (as Sampson and Mercutio), Raikkah Magsumbol (as Lady Capulet and Tybalt), Elise Mariano (as the Nurse and Abram), Elle Blanch (as Romeo), Carmela Cachola (as Juliet and the Prince), Ysabel Inocencio (as Lord Capulet and Gregory), and Daphne Ang (as Paris and Benvolio). They were not able to clearly portray the setting per scene and it may have given a hard time to some of audience to identify where some scenes took place.
As mentioned earlier, there was a lack of details shown by their props. Instead of using the PowerPoint, they chose to use the lights and play different music, which enabled them to express the mood of the scene, which was better than what I have expected. There were very few props which was slightly disappointing, due to the great performance they have shown giving credit to the actors who have sacrificed their time just to be able to entertain the audience. I was impressed with their costumes because unlike other groups, their costumes were not modern. Their costumes were all different which help the audience tell the role of each actor. Due to all these, the viewers where able to concentrate on the play well and enjoy each and every second of the play. Their props, costumes, backdrop, and music really contributed in expressing the Reinassance period themed play which is very outstanding.
All in all I can say that despite the lack of props and backdrops it was still amusing to watch their act. It was very impressive that they still mastered their lines and roles even though they were the first to perform. I truly enjoyed the play and I do not regret watching their group's performance of Act 1.
Romeo and Juliet is a well-known play by William Shakespeare. In this term, students are asked to act out a part of the play. The group that first presented is Group 1. The cast are Daphne Ang as Benvolio and Paris, Elle Blanch as Romeo, Carmela Cachola as Prince and Juliet, Ysabel Inocencio as Gregory and Lord Capulet, Raikkah Magsumbol as Tybalt and Lady Capulet, Jasmin Lizardo as Mercutio and Sampson, Eya Mariano as Abram and Nurse. The play took place in Viewing Rooms 1 and 2. The language that they used was Shakespearean. The stage was kind of plain since they did not have that much props but the costume that they used is very appropriate and suits the character.
The actors portrayed their character very well and there was chemistry between Elle and Carmela. Although there was a bit of confusion with the change of character for some of the actors, they were able to pay back with showing who they are portraying through their words and actions. I enjoyed watching the play since they acted very well and it was as if they were really part of the book. Most conversations were clear, yet some still lacked in volume for the audience to understand. We were entertained by their performance since they presented their act very well. It was very exciting to watch a love story happening on stage. A lot of people had fun especially when it was already the Masquerade Ball; when Romeo kissed Juliet and they danced. Even though they ran out of time in preparing, I can say that they put so much effort into making their play. They have creative and resourceful enough to provide certain materials and entertainment for the audience. Everyone enjoyed the play and their overall performance was great.
To conclude this, Group 1 presented Act 1 very well. Even if they were the first one to perform, they were ready. Although they lacked props and during the scenes there was no music and also no powerpoint. The lights were organized but there were times that it was too bright or too dark. They had good blockings but some of them kept on walking and sometimes its their back that we can see. I really liked the performance of act 1 they acted with feelings and all that. Everyone did a great job.
